What to bring to a record fair
A small kit makes a fair easier: something to carry finds in, a few sleeves for anything without a cover, and cash for stalls that don't take cards. You don't need much.
This is a short list of what most people end up wanting after their first fair. You can buy all of it later if you forget. Nothing here is essential for walking through the door.
Bag or tote
Something with a flat bottom so sleeves don't bend. A normal sturdy tote is fine. A dedicated vinyl bag is nicer if you go often and carry more than a handful of albums.
Leave heavy plastic crates at home unless you already know you're buying in bulk. Many fairs are crowded and you'll walk more than you think.
Outer sleeves
A pack of clear outer sleeves for albums that arrive without plastic. They're cheap, light, and they keep corners clean in the bag on the way home.
Inner sleeves
Useful when a disc is loose in a worn cover. Anti-static paper or rice-paper inners are worth it if you buy a lot of used vinyl; plain inners are enough to start.
Soft brush or basic cleaning kit
For a quick dust-off before you play something at home. A full wet-clean can wait until you know you'll keep the record. A carbon fibre brush or a small starter cleaning kit covers most first finds.
Cash and a bit of patience
Plenty of stalls still prefer cash, especially for smaller amounts. A card helps for bigger buys, but don't rely on every table having a reader.
Bring a short want-list on your phone if you have one, and leave room in the bag for surprises. Check the organiser's page for opening times and entry before you travel. Record fairs this weekend are on FairDigger.
